Xiaomi 12 Ultra will be equipped with the TSMC Qualcomm Snapdragon 4nm 8 Gen 1+

The confirmation that a Xiaomi12 Ultra exists has now been officially moved into the next phase of the flagship launch cycle: leaks, rumours, and speculations. This new leak concerns the processor that powers the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. It is believed to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon8 Gen 1+.

This news is from the Digital Chat station on Weibo. The Weibo post mentions that the Xiaomi S, model number 2206122SC is equipped with the unannounced Qualcomm SM8475chipsett. Leaks also reveal that the device will be launched in Q3 2022.

In an earlier leak, the Xiaomi L2S, which was identified as the Xiaomi12 Ultra, was spotted to be the Qualcomm SM8475 chipset. This is the successor of the Qualcomm SM8450 (or more commonly the Qualcomm Snapdragon8 Gen 1 processor). Rumours suggest that the Qualcomm SM8475 will be called the Snapdragon8 Gen 1+. It is expected to be made using TSMC's 4-nm process instead of Samsung's 4-nm node.

This leaked information is a pleasant surprise for those who had been putting off purchasing the Xiaomi12 or 12 Pro but decided to wait to purchase the Xiaomi12 Ultra. The Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12 Pro received positive reviews. Both phones were excellent in all aspects, including the camera, displays, and audio experience. The Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 chip that powers both smartphones is a major problem.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip was susceptible to overheating, battery drain issues, and even thermal throttle on many devices, including the Xiaomi12, 12 Pro, and the Motorola EdgeX30. Many blamed the 4nm process used to fabricate the chip under Samsung LSI. These issues are not as severe as those of the 8 Generation 1 flagship chipsets, like the Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 865, but they were less evident than the Snapdragon 855, Snapdragon 865, Snapdragon 865, and Snapdragon 855. All three were fabbed under TSM.

Qualcomm is reportedly returning to TSMC to make its Snapdragon8 Gen 1+ chip. It will use TSMC's 4nm process, which promises better thermals, power efficiency, and performance than its predecessor.
